Best Palette: Smashbox Cover Shot Eye

The Smashbox Cover Shot Eye palette doesn’t seem to be getting a lot of attention online but let me just say I am so in love with the beautiful colours and pigments of this little gem from Smashbox. I picked up the shade ‘softlight‘ and that is probably the most etherial name for a palette. I love that Smashbox released seven palettes with very different colours so there’s something for everyone whether you’re a neutral lover, colour lover or smokey eyed girl.  All of the shades are incredibly wearable and are light, shimmery (but not glittery chunks) and perfect for no-makeup daytime looks (click here for ‘no-makeup’ makeup products to try). I’ve also tried to use these as highlighters and so far so good.

Pros of the palette

Let’s start with the pros of this palette. I love the shades. I’m not huge into dark, smokey colours on my face. I generally prefer light shimmery colours just to swipe all over the lid and then a slightly darker crease colour that isn’t going to be too extreme. I love that EVERY SINGLE colour in this palette is usable for me. I hate buying bigger palettes such as (Naked 3) and then finding that I only really reach for 5-6 shades of a huge palette. It’s a pet peeve of mine but it definitely doesn’t happen with this little palette. The pros are:

  1. Beautiful Soft Colours
  2. Beautiful Pigmentation
  3. Can double up as Highlighters
  4. Small and Compact for Travel
  5. Good range of shades that are all very distinct once on
  6. Shimmery but no glitter

I really bought this palette so I could travel with it this month when I head over to my Europe holiday. It was really such a moment when I realised that these worked fairly well as being highlighters. I dipped my finger into the larger pan at the top left and tapped it onto the high points of my face with just my fingers and it worked really nicely as an overall highlighter. Yes to multi use products 🙂

Cons of the palette

Onto the Cons. There aren’t a whole lot but the most noticeable one is that there is a bit of fall out. Not on your face as you’re applying but when you swirl or tap your brush in, the pigments do fly off a little. It’s really not a big deal because it’s not one of those products that leave shimmer particles on your whole face. If you don’t like soft shimmery colours you might not like that there isn’t a whole lot of variety in this palette. For me, that’s the reason I bought it. I knew that this colour family was right up my alley.
