Five Tips For When You’re Feeling Down

I’m a happy person and a big believer in taking time out for yourself no matter how busy and stressful life gets. From time to time, I think everyone has moments where they don’t feel as motivated; whether that be about work, blogging or just life in general. Taking a day off normally is enough to get me back into the swing of things. I’m going to share a few of my favourite beauty and lifestyle tipsย to drop the negativity and start fresh again.

Creating a relaxing space with Aromatherapy.

I love products that immediately make me feel relaxed and get me to sleep at night. I picked up a diffuser last yearย and have gotten so much use from it. I normally put in a few drops of a mint mixture and it makes my room the most heavenly place to relax and spend a night in. If you’re not keen on diffusers, give the This Works Deep Sleep Pillow Sprayย a try. It has the most heavenly lavender scent. I promise it’s not just psychological when I say, I sleep better with this spray. The Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm is also a lovely quick pamper product any time during the day with the most wonderful herbal scent.


This won’t apply to everyone but a good book or a magazine once in a while makes me so happy. I feel like sometimes it’s easy to skip this step because when things get busy, we all feel a bit overwhelmed that we don’t take time out to do leisurely activities. A good book or magazine is a way to enter another world and stop overthinking and stressing about all the issues we are faced with. My magazine of choice is Frankie Magazine. My favourite books are The Great Gatsby, ย All the Light We Cannot See and The Curated Closet.

A beauty shakeup.

I love taking time out to get ready on a weekend (even though I work on a Saturday). It’s just nice to do a quick 10 minute mask before makeup, or try a new beauty technique or product. I always love a good bronze eyeshadow or a bright lip. Definitely shake things up once in a while and it can make you feel just that little bit more uplifted for the day. I love getting makeovers as well at counters. They’re often complimentary if you spend a certain amount (usually approximately two products). They give you a few new ideas and I always learn some new tips and tricks for makeup application.

Flowers and Greenery:

I’m pretty sure I have a plant problem. They make me so happy… almost too happy if that exists. Having beautiful flowers to look at (and photograph) makes a world of a difference especially if I am spending the weekend at home. They don’t have to be costly. I recently purchased two small bouquets of flowers for a couple of dollars each and added some gum to create a beautiful mix. If this isn’t an option, get a few succulents to put around your room. They’re so easy to upkeep and bring life into your space.

Find a hobby.

I love workshops. All workshops. I’m dying to do a floral arranging class sometime in the next few months. But this includes anything and everything from a photoshop course, to jewellery making to photography and editing. I love learning new things, having new hobbies and picking something up when you’re uninspired is the perfect way to perk up again. If not, find a hobby and learn it yourself. Learning to knit, calligraphy, art, crafts… diy skincare… anything.

      Oh yes! that sounds amazing! I’ve seen people with a stand that goes over their bathtub where they can place their laptop, tea… and it looks brilliant.

    I love this post ๐Ÿ™‚ It’s true that you need to take time out sometimes….life does get so busy and so stressful! Face mask in a hot bath is my treat time…hopefully then followed by chilling infant of the tv and painting my nails. A hobby is such a good thing to have too….I dance ballroom and latin and when I am in my lesson, my stresses are on the other side of the door for that hour! I also find writing my blog can be quite therapeutic sometimes too! Great post xx

    Your page is gorgeous! I agree with you on reading a good book, I forgot all about my problems when I’m readying a good book. The worst part is getting to the end and turning that last page ๐Ÿ™
