How to Get Out of a Style Rut

how to update your wardrobe, minimal, blush pink, midi skirt

There are things that I feel like I absolutely need in my wardrobe despite doing my somewhat minimal challenge. I’m not a monochrome girl who can just chuck a bit of colour here and there to mix it up. I love colour, and prints and I’m unwilling to let that go despite wanting to invest in some ‘nicer’ pieces that I actually love rather than just buying things for the sake of a change.I’m heading into Winter in Australia but I seem to be stuck in Spring with my current palette. Spring fashion is the best style season in my opinion. I’ve been loving wearing pinks and reds which is quite out of my usual comfort zone where my entire wardrobe is normally denim and blue.

These are a few of my must have items when I’m stuck in a style rut.

1. A Blush Sweater top

I’m wearing my blush cashmere crew neck from Grana and I’m obsessed. It’s so cosy and comfortable and I can actually wear it with everything I own in my wardrobe. The blush is actually so versatile, much more than I thought it would be. I’ve been wearing it non-stop with midi skirts, to the point where I seriously have neglected all other sweaters in my wardrobe. If blush is not your thing, check out some of their other amazing colours. I also love Uniqlo V-neck Cashmere for the price/quality.

2. Dainty Gold Touches

I’ve always been a silver jewellery girl until I discovered that gold packs such a punch when it comes to accessorising simple outfits. I recently picked up a crescent/horn necklace that I’ve seen all over Instagram and have been wearing it everyday:) I also added some gold stacking rings and they make such a big difference to me.

3. A Cute Bag Update

I used to buy neutral coloured bags because IΒ thought they would be the most versatile ones. I’ve realised that I wear my bright bags so much more often though. My Furla Metropolis in Green is such a staple in my wardrobe and matches with a surprising number of outfits. A small little bag in a bright pop might be the thing that perks up your wardrobe this season. Especially recommend trying this one if you’re a neutral girl.

4. Decide on a colour palette

I finally settled on pink/red as the colour ‘base’ in my wardrobe to mix in with more neutral and staple items. It’s been so much easier to get ready and to chuck together outfits for that perf Instagram shot when everything just matches with each other. I’ve always been more into my pinks/reds than my blue/greens so that was a easy decision for me to make.

5. Add subtleΒ prints!

I’ve fallen in love with little floral prints and polka dots that are interesting without being too loud. Prints that are really loud tends to get old really soon. I’ve found that dainty little flowers, dots or stripes go with everything and it’s just so fun to mix and match.

Hope you enjoyed the read and let me know what you love in your wardrobe πŸ™‚
