New in Skincare Goodies

May has been a good month for beauty and a bad one for my bank balance. After having used the same old products for so long, I finally finished some skincare bottles and saw it as a good chance to repurchase (a few too many things). I’ve forever wanted to try the Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief and some Pixi goodies after seeing the Pixi glow tonic everywhere in blogosphere.

Origins Mega-Mushroom Skin Relief Lotion

I finished using a couple of mists and toners and decided to grab the Origins Mega Mushroom Skin Relief.Β It’s been on display at Mecca Cosmetica which didn’t help either. It has a faint herbal scent and is more of a watery toner. I prefer to have it on a cotton pad rather than simply pouring it into the palm of my hands (which I often do with more gel like toners). On my skin, it is very gentle and refreshing without being too much of an astringent or clarifying toner which I don’t like as they are drying and strip the natural oils. My skin right now is still fairly dehydrated and I like the toner as the first step in balancing and hydrating my skin. I’ve always loved Origins so it is no surprise that this was another win! (Check out my review of some other Origins products).

Pixi Glow Mud Cleanser

I’ve been using the GlamGlow Thirsty Mud Cleanser which is an actual mud mask formula when it comes out of the tube. This Pixi one is quite lovely but is definitely more of a creamy cleanser and less ‘mud’ like when compared to the Glam Glow. That being said, it’s quite lovely. It contains 5% Glycolic acid and aloe vera. I’ve been using it in mornings and its left my skin happy and balanced. Glycolic acid is meant to exfoliate the skin gently but I haven’t noticed any irritation with daily use (probably because it is only on the skin for about a minute while cleansing). Truly love this and would recommend. There is a faint scent that I can’t quite put my finger on- most likely the scent of the Glycolic acid.

Pixi Glow Mist

I currently have the Kiehls ginseng and cactus mist which I don’t think I love. It smells overly strong of alcohol but at the same time is very refreshing. I added the Pixi glow mist because I will be doing a fair bit of travelling over the next few months and thought it would be a good addition to my carry on. The mist has argan oil and propolis which you can kind of see as the oil and water separates in the bottle. Not in a bad way though. Once you shake it up it goes onto the skin flawlessly and is so hydrating over or under makeup. It doesn’t smudge any of my makeup and gets rid of that tight feeling after a long day outside or in front of the laptop. I will say that the bottle doesn’t dispense a fine mist like the Kiehls- but I assume that’s because of the oils inside being a heavier texture. Can’t wait to also try the milky mist at one point.
