Everlane Drape Trench Review

With cooler weather coming in Australia, I’ve been wearing and thoroughly enjoying the new Everlane Drape Trench. A trench coat is always a staple in my wardrobe, but especially so in the transitional seasons when the weather is unpredictable. It’s a piece that instantly adds an effortlessly chic vibe to any outfit.

Made from 60% Lyocell and 40% Cotton, the trench, as the name would suggest, has the most beautiful drape. I find Lyocell particularly lovely to wear because of the beautiful smooth finish and movement. Not to mention Lyocell has become popular amongst sustainable brands as well as the high street. It can be recycled and is biodegradable, making it a low-impact fibre.

I chose the colour Clay, the darker of the options and it’s a beautiful deep khaki/taupe shade. This shade is stunning, and the darker colour to the traditional trench, makes the piece feel a bit more sleek and elegant.

I wear the size XXS, and as always, I’ve sized down. Everlane sizing definitely runs large, so keep this in mind when ordering. I’m normally a US 0-2 or AU 6.

Fit wise, the trench is double breasted, with a long belt. On my 5’3/160 cm frame, this reaches a midi length which is perfect. It is longer than Everlane’s classic ‘Modern Trench Coat‘. I love and prefer the longer length of this coat. Combined with the drapey finish, I find the longline style to be stylish without ever being overwhelming as there isn’t as much structure or excess material. The belt on the coat is a bit long, but nothing major.

I compare the Everlane Modern Trench Coat with this Drape Trench in the video below if you are deciding between the two options. They’re actually very different jackets. The classic Modern Trench Coat is water resistant, with all the finishings of a traditional trench. The Drape Trench is not water resistant, longer, with different colour ways, and would be more suited as a casual yet chic light jacket.

I compare the Modern Trench Coat and the Drape Trench in my Spring Wardrobe Essentials video.

All in all, this Drape Trench has been a surprising addition to my wardrobe. I didn’t expect to find much use for a new trench given how much I love the original. But as the two are so different, this piece will definitely be getting some love and wear in my wardrobe.
