Grana Poplin Drop Shoulder Shirt Dress Review

I have this thing with poplin shirt dresses and couldn’t resist picking one up from Grana to try. They remind me of the very chic NY girl who would wear her boyfriend’s shirt for an oversized, carefree look. Now now, who wouldn’t want that? But at the same time, it needs to be balanced- between being carefree and too baggy.  I tend to dress this up a bit to stop it from looking too relaxed and sloppy.

This is a perfect lazy summer dress for me. I like the poplin- it isn’t stiff and is quite lightweight so it sits nicely on the body. I’ve tried Muji dress shirts and they’ve always been too rigid which makes them a lot harder to wear. But I will say that I’ve found that shirt dresses are not must haves in my closet. For casual summer days, I tend to throw on something a little less classic and more fun. For work days, this seems that little bit casual. I do like it though.

The back side of the poplin dress is slightly longer than the front hem. This is a cute detail and makes the simple shirt dress a little more unique. There’s nothing striking about the typical blue striped fabric.  The dress has horizontal stripes and the pocket has diagonal stripes which breaks up the print a little (in a good way). It also features a 3/4 length sleeve which is designed to roll up once. While I like this length, it does make it harder to wear it with a jacket or cardigan without looking bulky on the arms.

This poplin dress from Grana comes in the light blue as shown or a plain white. It’s 117 AUD and I find it just a little bit expensive for cotton. But I can’t fault the quality at all!

In the photo, I’ve styled it with my new Burberry sunnies, Everlane day heels and Mansur Gavriel bucket bag. My watch is from Linjer.

Let me know your thoughts. Yes or No to the shirt dress?
