I received my Doen Charleston Dress in the mail last week after obsessing over their Spring 2020 collection online. I’m already in LOVE with this dress and all the ways it can possibly be styled.
I chose mine in the Hardwick Garden shade in a Cotton/Viscose (52% Cotton and 48% Viscose) blend. It also comes in a beautiful yellow floral made of silk.
On first impressions, the material is this BEAUTIFUL light weight fabric with a silky touch that feels so comfortable and soft on the skin. Despite it being a light weight fabric, you can definitely tell that it is made using high quality cotton and viscose.
I picked up the dress in an XS, and it fits me well. I’m 160cm or 5’3 for reference and usually wear a XS or US 0-2.
I really wasn’t sure about the deep V cut at the front, but actually, it looks fine with/without a bandeau underneath. It’s not as dramatic as I thought it would be and for those of you with a larger chest, I think this cut would be much more flattering than on me. I definitely feel like the bust area of this dress is large on my frame but because I am obsessed with every other detail, I’m letting this slide.
Being 5’3 and on the petite side, the length is not overwhelming. I would wear it in the future with a small block heel just so it shows a bit of ankle, which is always how I prefer to wear a longer dress. With a small heel, this dress feels quite balanced and not like there’s too much excess material.
All in all, Doen dresses are my new obsession. This is one of their slightly more affordable dresses (though by NO means friendly to my wallet) and it’s honestly such a beauty. I’ll be sharing how I style this dress in an upcoming lookbook on YouTube so stay tuned for that here.
Let me know if you’ve picked up anything from Doen before and what were your experiences with the brand?
