I’ve always had a thing for wrap dresses as they remind me of Jeanne Damas or some very fabulous french girl holidaying somewhere in Provence. I was recently sent the Everlane short sleeve wrap dress in black and I’m so so pleased to say that the neckline has definitely not proved to be a pain like the many, many other wrap dresses I’ve tried. The Everlane one, like everything else from the brand, has a more classic cut that’s not too revealing but still provides a very flattering V-neck shape.
What I was looking for in the Wrap Dress
- Versatile enough for work and play
- Customisable neckline to adjust for different occasions
- Wrinkle Free Fabric (or at least tolerable for a long day)
The first time I wore this last week was to a fairly formal business event (see below) and I paired it with a black blazer for a very chic, if I do say so myself, work outfit. I was really happy with how it looked and paired it with a black cami inside to prevent any issues. I’ve also worn it in the last couple of days in more casual ways and its proved to be a very versatile little dress. My Overall thoughts
I don’t wear a lot of black but have always enjoyed the little black dress. It’s a bit of a contradiction but I’m always amazed at how much versatility comes out of it. The Everlane Wrap Dress has been tested in formal and casual occasions alike and it both cases, I’ve felt super confident in it.
Material and Sizing
I’m a huge fan of this particular dress in a go weave material as it is more wrinkle resistant. When I reviewed the slip dress, I didn’t quite fall in love with it, but this time its really stood the test of a whole day’s wear with no significant wrinkles. I left it in my wardrobe without hanging it up and I was pleasantly surprised to find it still in tip top condition. The material is 100% Triacetate and a part of their Japanese Go-Weave material range. If you want to know a little more, you can read up on it here on the Everlane page.
With sizing, I took my typical Everlane size in a 00 and it was perfect. I’ve always sized down for Everlane because I’m on the more petite side at 5’3/160cm and it just fits better than my regular size which should be a 0-2 (AU6). I would recommend you to size down as well especially if you prefer a higher neckline rather than a more plunging V.
As I mentioned earlier, I’ve worn this wrap style, which is traditionally more vacation appropriate, for work settings as well with no issues what so ever. You have the option of tightening the straps at the waist so the neckline sits higher, or loosening the ties for a more casual, relaxed vibe. If you keep scrolling, you’ll also see how well this works as a Summer dress when pared with a denim jacket and block heels (from Everlane) to liven the look up. For the Autumn/Winter period which it’s now in Sydney, I’ve layered a cropped, chunky knit over it for a super easy but put together outfit.
